1. Acceptance

By using PNG Law Explained you accept these Terms of Use, the Disclaimer and the Privacy Policy. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

2. What this site is

PNG Law Explained is an independent legal education publisher. It provides general information about the law of Papua New Guinea for public education.

It does not provide legal advice, does not accept requests for legal representation, and does not create a lawyer–client relationship with anyone. The Disclaimer forms part of these Terms and should be read with them.

3. Copyright

Unless stated otherwise, the articles, guides, glossary, layout, design and code on this site are the copyright of PNG Law Explained. Copyright in legislation, court judgments and other official material quoted or described here belongs to its own rights holders and is not claimed by us.

What you may do without asking

• Read, print and save articles for your own personal, non-commercial use.
• Share a link to any page, anywhere, freely. Links are always welcome.
• Quote a reasonable extract — a paragraph or two — in a report, submission, essay, lesson or article, provided you attribute it clearly to PNG Law Explained and include the address of the page you took it from.
• Print copies for a community legal education session, a classroom, a church group or an NGO training activity, provided the material is not sold, is reproduced without alteration, and keeps the disclaimer attached.

What needs permission

• Republishing an article in full, on a website, in print, or in an app.
• Translating an article into another language for distribution — we would usually be glad to agree to this; please ask so we can check the translation is accurate.
• Any commercial use, including use in a paid publication, a paid course, or a service you charge for.
• Using our name, logo or branding in a way that suggests we endorse you, your organisation or your services.

Permission requests go through the Contact page and are usually straightforward, particularly for public-benefit purposes.

Automated collection and machine learning

Systematic scraping, bulk downloading, or reproduction of this site in whole or in substantial part is not permitted without written consent. That includes harvesting the content for use in training or grounding an automated system that generates legal information, where the result would present this material without its context, its sources or its disclaimer.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• use the site for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that breaches these Terms;
• interfere with the operation or security of the site, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to it;
• impose an unreasonable load on the site through automated requests;
• reproduce material in a way that misrepresents what it says, or presents it as legal advice; or
• present yourself as connected with, endorsed by, or speaking for PNG Law Explained.

5. Material you send us

If you send us a suggestion, correction or comment, you grant us permission to use it to improve the site, without obligation or payment. We will not publish your name without your permission. Please do not send confidential material — see the Privacy Policy.

6. Availability

The site is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not guarantee that it will be available without interruption, that it will be free of errors, or that any particular article will remain published. We may add, change, correct, withdraw or archive material at any time without notice.

7. External links

Links to other organisations are provided for convenience. We do not control those sites, do not endorse them by linking to them, and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability or practices.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, PNG Law Explained, its authors, editors and contributors exclude all liability for any loss, damage, cost or expense — direct, indirect, consequential or economic — arising from any use of, or reliance on, this site or anything published on it, or from any inability to access it.

Nothing in these Terms excludes any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the law of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, and any dispute arising out of them or out of your use of this site is subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Papua New Guinea.

10. Changes to these Terms

These Terms may be updated from time to time. The version published on this page is the version that applies, and the date at the top shows when it last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
