Who this policy is about

This policy covers PNG Law Explained and the pages published at this website. It does not cover any other site you reach by following a link from here.

Reading the site

You do not need to identify yourself to read anything on this site. There is no sign-up, no login, and no paywall.

Server logs

Like effectively every website, the server that delivers these pages may keep standard technical logs of requests — the address requested, the date and time, the type of browser, and the network address of the device making the request. These logs exist to keep the site running and secure. They are generated by the hosting provider rather than by us, and we do not use them to identify individual readers.

Advertising

This site is free to read and costs money to run. To meet that cost it carries advertising supplied by Google AdSense, a service of Google LLC and its affiliates.

What Google receives

When a page carrying an advertisement loads, Google receives information about that visit. That ordinarily includes the address of the page you are on, the network address of your device, your browser and device type, and the approximate location that network address suggests. It may also include information Google already holds about your browser from other sites in its advertising network.

Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve advertisements. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve advertisements to you based on your visit to this site and to other sites on the internet. We do not receive that information, and we cannot see who you are from it.

What we do not do

• We do not give Google, or any advertiser, anything you send us in a message.
• We do not sell or trade personal information.
• We have no say in which advertisements appear on any given page. They are selected automatically. An advertisement appearing beside an article is not a recommendation, an endorsement, or a sign that the advertiser had anything to do with what the article says.
• No advertiser has any influence over the content of this site. Nothing here is written, reviewed or paid for by an advertiser.

Turning personalised advertising off

You can stop advertising being personalised to you, without leaving this site:

• Google’s own controls — Google Ads Settings lets you switch off personalised advertising across Google’s network.
• Other advertising vendors — optout.aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.com offer industry-wide opt-outs.
• Your browser — you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or use private browsing.
• More detail is in how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Switching personalisation off does not remove the advertising. It means the advertisements you see are chosen without reference to a profile of your browsing.

If you are in Europe or the United Kingdom

Where the law requires consent before advertising cookies are set — which includes the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland — you will be asked first, through a consent notice, and advertising cookies will not be set until you agree. You can change or withdraw that choice at any time.

Analytics

The site runs no separate analytics product — there is no Google Analytics tag, no social media tracking pixel, and no cross-site tracking of our own. If that changes, this policy will be updated to describe it before the change takes effect.

Advertising reporting from Google gives us aggregate figures — how many times advertisements were shown and on which pages. It does not tell us who you are.

Cookies

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to store. This site uses them in two ways, and only two:

• Advertising cookies, set by Google and its advertising partners, as described above. These are the only cookies connected with tracking or profiling, and in the regions named above they are set only after you consent.
• Your consent choice itself, where a consent notice is shown, so that you are not asked again on every page.

We set no cookies of our own for tracking, profiling or measurement. The search box works entirely inside your browser — what you type into it is never transmitted to us or to anyone else, with or without advertising.

If you send us a message

If you contact us by email at the address given on the Contact page, we receive what you choose to send: your name, your email address, and the content of your message.

What we do with it

• Read it, and reply where a reply is appropriate.
• Act on it, if it is a correction or a suggestion for an article.
• Keep it for as long as it is useful for those purposes, then delete it.

What we do not do with it

• We do not add you to a mailing list. There is no newsletter.
• We do not sell, rent, trade or share your information with anyone for marketing.
• We do not publish your name or message without your permission.

Form handling

The contact form on the Contact page is delivered by Formspree (Formspree, Inc., United States). When you submit the form, what you typed — your name, your email address, the subject you chose and your message — is transmitted to Formspree, which stores it and forwards it to us by email. Formspree holds that information under its own privacy terms as well as this policy, and its servers are outside Papua New Guinea.

If you would rather not have a third party handle your message, write to us directly by email instead. The address is given on the Contact page and reaches the same mailbox. Nothing on this site requires you to use the form.

The form carries a hidden anti-spam field. If it is completed — which only an automated system would do — the submission is discarded.

Hosting

This site is delivered by a hosting provider, which necessarily processes requests for pages in order to serve them, and which may keep the technical logs described above under its own terms.

Children

This site is intended for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect information from children. Nothing on the site is directed at children or designed to encourage them to send us information.

Your choices

• You can read anonymously. Nothing on the site requires you to identify yourself.
• You can ask what we hold. If you have written to us and want to know what we still have, ask, and we will tell you.
• You can ask us to delete it. If you have written to us and want your message deleted, ask, and we will delete it unless we are required to keep it.
• You can block cookies and scripts in your browser. This site is built to work with JavaScript disabled; the menu, the search box and a few conveniences are enhancements, and every page reads and navigates without them. Blocking scripts also stops the advertising.
• You can switch off personalised advertising without leaving the site — see Advertising for the controls, including Google’s own settings page and the industry-wide opt-outs.
• You can change your consent choice at any time, where a consent notice was shown to you.

Other websites

This site links to courts, government bodies, legal aid providers and support services. Once you follow a link you are on someone else’s website, governed by their privacy practices, not ours. We have no control over what they collect.

Changes to this policy

If what the site collects changes — because audience measurement is added, or the advertising, hosting or form arrangements change — this policy will be updated to describe the new position before the change takes effect, and the date at the top will change.

Third parties named in this policy

Three organisations outside Papua New Guinea handle information connected with this site. Each has its own privacy terms, which apply alongside this policy:

• Formspree, Inc. — the contact form, if you use it. Formspree Privacy Policy.

You can avoid the third of these entirely by writing to us by email instead of using the form.
